Important! 95-00 Tacoma Frame Problem

by SR5

Rusted in half

Official Toyota Press Release

95-00 Tacoma Owners- If you are not already aware be sure to have your truck frame inspected by Toyota dealer for rust perforation of the frame rails. We have all seen the folding Toyota trucks. It is a dangerous situation. Don’t let this pass you by. You do not have to be the original owner to qualify. If your truck does fail inspection, you may be entitled to compensation from Toyota.

This is Toyota’s statement about the extension of the warranty:

Rust, as they say, never sleeps. It certainly never sleeps in the states where road salt is in heavy use, and we’ve recently become aware of additional evidence of that fact.
We’ve received reports that on a small number of model-year 1995 to 2000 Tacomas, excessive corrosion of the frame has caused perforation of the metal. The reason for this, it appears, is that the frames of some of the 813,000 vehicles built during this time-frame may not have adequate corrosion protection.
As a result, when they’re exposed to severe environmental conditions, especially in states where salt is used for the de-icing of roads, these frames may develop corrosion that goes beyond the normal surface rust that’s commonly found on metal after years of exposure – and in this case, these trucks are from eight to 13 years old.
Because of our oft-stated commitment to standing behind our products, we’re extending the rust-perforation warranty covering these trucks for a period of 15 years from each vehicle’s original date of purchase, with no mileage limitation, for corrosion damage that results in perforation of the vehicle’s frame material. Owners of these Tacomas need not be the original owners. Even if you bought your Tacoma second- or third-hand, it’s covered by this extended warranty.
Here’s how this will work: Starting in the middle of March and continuing over a period of time, owners of 1995-2000 Tacomas will be sent letters informing them about this issue. If you find rust perforation on your vehicle’s frame, have your truck inspected by a Toyota dealer.
If frame corrosion damage is confirmed by an inspection at a Toyota dealership, at Toyota’s option, we will either repair the vehicle or repurchase it. No matter the vehicle’s actual condition, it will be valued as a vehicle in excellent condition. If the inspection reveals no rust perforation, the 15-year warranty will remain in force.
This is worth underscoring: This is not a recall. Rather, it’s an example of our commitment to the durability of our products and to our owners. These are older trucks and rust is a fact of life, especially where road salt is used, but that’s not what’s important. What’s important is that we take care of our owners. We just thought you should know that.

Truth in Advertising

by SR5

Truth is- Toyota has had some very successful ad campaigns and some very memorable slogans. Do you remember your favorite?

“Oh what a feeling, Toyota” has to be mine, maybe because it’s the first one I remember. Seems this slogan has gone to the birds. Updated link

The best built cars in the world. Yes! But what about trucks?

“What will you do with all the money you save?” Toyota. Buy a set of custom rims :)

“Hey Toyota, you’re terrific!” - Toyota.

Bugger didn’t make the official list

Everything keeps going right Great for trips around the block.

Think you’re tough enough to drive a Tacoma? Ummm no.

Loch Ness Monster even prefers a Toyota.

This has to be my favorite. Did you know that Hiluxs are unbreakable? Crikey!

I love what you do for me - Toyota! Awww group hug!

I’m sure that I missed a few. Leave a comment with yours.

Welcome to SR5

by SR5

Welcome to SR5, and for some, welcome back. I’ve been away for a while, but the site is back up with a new look. Hopefully better than before.

10 years on the webSR5 celebrates 10 years on the web this year. It sure doesnt seem like its been that long, but I first started the site in 1998. There’s this cool thing on the web called the wayback machine. For a look at the way things were click here. Cue the Barbra Streisand music

Speaking of music, have you ever wondered if there are any songs about Toyotas? I only ever found one - “My Toyota” by the Bent Scepters, a catchy little tune from their Hellavator Music cd. Built in the land of the rising sun, she wasnt built for speed, she was built for miles, if you wanna stick around, I’ll pick you up in style, in my Toyota baby! Hey hey!

This site is specifically designed for owners and/or enthusiasts of Toyota Trucks with the exception of Land Cruisers (there are many other sites dedicated to these fine vehicles). This site exists to provide its intended users access to information about other owners, technical matters, and parts availability.

This section of the SR5 website is reserved for Tacomas. Toyota trucks manufactured after 1995 will be featured here.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy the site.
